한국말은 표현이 다양하다고 하는데

영어도 공부하면 할수록 

영어도 만만치 않게 다양한 표현이 있다는 것을 배웁니다.

 

비싸다를 표현하는 관용어 중에

Cost an arm and a leg 이 눈에 들어옵니다.

오늘 알려드릴 표현입니다. 

 

얼마나 비싸면 팔과 다리로 비용처리 해야 하는 걸까요.

아무리 좋은 물건이라도 팔과 다리를 떼어 줄 정도로

가치가 있는 물건은 없을 것 같은데 말이죠.

신기한 표현입니다.

이 신기한 표현을 미국인들은 상당히 자주 사용하더라고요. 

 

찾아보니 2차 세계 대전 때 전쟁에서 팔과 다리를 잃은 사람들을 보고

큰 대가를 치렀다고 해서 생겨난 표현이라고 합니다. 

엄청난 대가입니다. 

이 정도면 구입하지 않는 편이 더 나을 것 같다는 생각이 드네요.
